Sheldon Farms has been in operation in our family in
Washington County since 1845. Varietal potatoes and sweet
corn are specialties. We also produce about 400 gallons
of maple syrup in the spring of the year. We have a seasonal
farm market selling our own vegetables along with local
farmstead cheeses, imported cheeses, specialty foods,
and local sausages and bacon. We will work with chefs
in any way possible to promote the idea of New York food
and look forward to building mutually exciting relationships
.
Our farm was established in 1845. The farm is set on
600 acres with 250 in production.
Farm History:
Albert is the descendant of farmers on both sides virtually
since their arrival in New England in the 1630's. Both
grandfathers were successful potato and dairy farmers.
He has been growing and selling sweet corn since the age
of 10 and although he is modest about it, "Sheldon
Sweet Corn" is widely known in eastern upstate New
York and Vermont. The farm's land lies on mineral-rich
bottom land along the Battenkill River and White Creek,
producing potatoes of exceptional flavor. Since opening
the Sheldon Farm Market in 1999, Sheldons has produced
a broader variety of vegetables including green beans,
peas, zucchini and summer squashes, varietal eggplant,
pumpkins, winter squash, brussels sprouts, and flowers
including many varieties of sunflowers, zinnias, snapdragons
and edible flowers like nasturtiums and violets.
